Primary School Class Teacher

Applications are invited for the position of Primary School Class Teacher at the Blue Mountains Steiner School located in Hazelbrook, NSW.

Experience in Steiner education or willingness to undertake professional learning in Steiner education is essential. 

The successful applicant will be energetic, enthusiastic, experienced and passionate about teaching and learning. This is a full-time position commencing January 2022.

  • Stage teaching within our primary school 
  • Permanent full-time role. 


  • Be registered, or have the ability to be registered, with NESA, and have a current Working with Children Check  
  • Ability to provide current and relevant teaching references from Middle Management/Executive Leadership level  
  • Have the right to work in Australia.

Position Description

Responsible to: Principal and College Teachers

Key tasks and expected outcomes

  • Carry the role of Primary Class Teacher 
  • Teach the NSW Primary Curriculum effectively to the students 
  • Carry out duty of care to students 
  • Participate in and contribute to Blue Mountains Steiner School (BMSS) co-curricular activities 
  • Carry out teaching duties as negotiated with the Principal and the College of Teachers 
  • Work independently and cooperatively as part of a team in programming, assessing, registration and reporting 
  • Nurture a love of learning  
  • Use a variety of different teaching strategies to engage students 
  • Give quality feedback to students 
  • Provide strong and consistent classroom feedback 
  • Uphold school rules, ethos and core values 
  • Complete academic reports 
  • Attend and participate in school festivals, open days and parent evenings 
  • Attend weekly college and faculty meetings 
  • Commit to regular Professional Development (PD) and growth 
  • Positively support Steiner education and the values of BMSS. 


  • Teaching qualification in Education, including current Working with Children Check 
  • Knowledge and experience in Steiner teaching 
  • A commitment to support the underpinnings of the strong Steiner education pedagogy at the Blue Mountains Steiner School 
  • A working knowledge of current NSW syllabus documents and programming primary KLAs 
  • Experience in teaching primary students from Stages 1-3 
  • The ability to program, assess and evaluate (demonstrated experience) 
  • Ability to teach 21st century skills (for eg. age-appropriate critical thinking, problem solving) and embed these into programming and the ability to link these skills and knowledge into Steiner education 
  • Pedagogical proficiency and sound classroom management skills 
  • Understanding of Restorative Practice in a primary school context 
  • Commitment to the education and wellbeing of young people 
  • Proven ability to teach early literacy and numeracy 
  • Professional and personal integrity 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • High standard of organisational and time management skills 
  • Ability to provide current and relevant teaching references from Middle Management/Executive Leadership level 
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development. 
  • Graduate Certificate in Steiner education 
  • Passion for teaching within a Steiner school  
  • Ability to work within a team context
  • Experience working in the Microsoft Office 365 environment 
  • Please indicate any particular skill sets or strengths you could contribute to our primary teaching faculty (for example woodwork, outdoor education, music, earth building, or festival programming in a Steiner school context).
