Kindergarten/Boronia Room

We have enjoyed a very productive week in the Kindergarten, getting back into our routines and establishing our daily rhythms.

Our new morning circle is the Shoemaker and the Elves and this week the children delighted in a beautiful Winter puppet play of “The Shepherd and the Lamb”.

During craft time the children are busy making a felt mouse with a single finger-knitted tail. The students are very keen to get this soft toy completed so that they can take it into their Wintertime play, which is currently very focused on home building and nesting.

We welcome Kelly Bellaro to the Kindergarten. Kelly is completing her Rudolf Steiner Early Childhood Certificate practicum with us and will be in the room for three weeks. Kelly is an experienced Early Childhood Teacher and will be taking a position at Coffs Harbour Steiner Preschool after completing her training.

Ebba Bodame (Early Childhood Educator), will be back next Tuesday at 9.15am in the library to share more of her wisdom and insights into practical ways to care for and work with young children. Everyone is most welcome to join in and bring your little one along.

Stay warm and cosy,

Francine

Class 1/2

This week we are settling in to our first full week and our new rhythms! We had great fun at circus skills on Friday with Stuart and our first PE lesson with the new PE teacher, Pete, who will teach every second Monday.

Class 1 have been exploring their new ‘sensory corner’ items, which are to support their nervous system regulation and help keep their hands busy so their mind can focus. Class 2 have loved exploring their new STEM boxes and challenges and have already created some incredible things together.

If you haven’t yet returned your child’s hat (sent home before the holidays), please do so ASAP.

Have a lovely weekend,

Amy, Isabelle and Soumya

Class 3/4

This week all our stories are set in Greece. As a teacher in a Steiner school, drawing inspiration from fresh experiences helps to keep the stories ‘alive’ in our Main Lesson.

Class 3/4 looked at past, present and future tenses in our English Main Lesson; Stuart skillfully guided us in Circus Skills which is a lot of fun and the children are loving it; and we enjoyed sewing patterns in our cross-stitch projects, as you can see in some of the pictures.

We hope you enjoy your weekend.

Class 5/6

This week, Class 5/6 undertook two days of leadership training in preparation for becoming peer support leaders later in the term. Some of the topics we covered were:

  • Active Listening skills
  • Teamwork and creating group agreements so that everyone feels heard, valued and confident to participate
  • Build-ups to build connections between leaders
  • Hands-on team-building programs where we had to solve a problem together in small teams.

Some other things we learned were that it is HOW we say something that is sometimes more important than WHAT we say; the power of empathy; understanding why it is important to learn to self-regulate, and decision-making skills.

Thank you, Renee and Lee, for teaching us these important skills.
