Preschool

The sun has shown us his shine, and we have been making rivers and estuaries in the sandpit with water.

This week, the cicadas have been using their singing voices very eloquently. Outside children run around, rubbing their arms to their sides like cicadas, as the children connect with Mother Earth, putting their feet and hands in wet sand and mud, creating wonderful rivers, and tiny towns.

Flying around with the ‘cabbage white’ butterflies has been a wonderful play for the younger children, and Story Time has been magical. ‘Rainbow Horses’ supports our cherubs with gentle stimuli to excite their imagination and creativity, which is extended by the song ‘Rainbow Horses’:

“Rainbow Horses, galloping by, through the clouds, across the sky.

Round and round and round we go, from the land of the sea to the land of the snow.”

Children take turns being the horse with a swishing rainbow tail. There is a lot of laughter and excitement. Bees Wax was the activity of the week. Little fingers create all sorts of wonderful things.

Some of our Boronia children have been going to their school orientations and coming back with stories. They have been enacting sea creatures, drawing imaginative pictures, and just growing up in so many wondrous ways.

It has been a warm week. Should you feel the days are going to be hot, please pack a pair of board shorts and a rashie. We will engage in a refreshing water play.

Kindergarten/Boronia Room

Everyone was delighted with the arrival of our new Kindergarten student, Arlo Kenyon, this week. Arlo brought much excitement into the classroom along with his warm smile and gentle nature. Arlo will go up to Class One with the Kindergarten group next year.

We are very pleased to announce Katherine Turner as the Class One teacher for 2025. Kindergarten parents are invited to meet with Kath on Thursday 21 November 2024 (Week 6) at 7pm in the Class One room below the ballcourt.

Stay cool everyone and please remember to pack spare clothes in the children’s school bags every day for water and sand play.

Have a great weekend.

Class 1/2

Class 1/2 hit the ground running this term and who can believe we are already in Week 4!

We have moved into Bayin Gura season which means “cool getting warmer” and that certainly has been the case with all types of weather this week. With the warmer weather we encourage children to drink more water, wear sunscreen, and a hat is a must for play time and bushwalks. Please make sure your child has a full drink bottle ready every day.

This week we will be finishing off our Maths Main Lesson “Marcels Marketplace”, during which the children enjoyed learning about measurement and weight by using tools such as scales, rulers, hands, and feet. We will also begin our class play this week, which is always very exciting.

Important Dates

Friday 15 November, 9.10am: Cross Country:

Thursday 28 November, 6pm: Class Play:

Class 3/4

As you would know, our Class play is on 20 November 2024 at 6pm. I would love it if we could all have a dinner together afterwards, which is why I am organising a potluck dinner for us all.

Could you please let me know if you are interested in being there for dinner together after our play? If you are going to stay, I would like to ask for some help setting up some trestle tables before the play so that we are ready to eat and relax after the play. I do not think the play will be very long, it is still forming, but I think it will be about 30 mins. max.

If you could let me know soon, that would be very helpful.

Also, our class excursion to Hyde Park Barracks on Monday 25 November, can you please hand notes in ASAP. I need to let the museum know the numbers of children who are attending.

Student projects: The farm project is due next week, but I have told the class that they can hand it in on Monday of Week 6 (18/11) if they need more time.

Thanks very much,

Julie and Meredith

Class 5/6

Term 4 is a huge term for Class 5/6 as we edge towards graduation for Class 6 at the end of the term.

This week we started rehearsals for our play – students have been heavily involved in every aspect of production including writing, set design, costumes, music and casting. We finally have our cast and crew roles cemented and are enjoying diving into the Ancient Greek world.

For Friday Funday the class enjoyed a “Guess the Baby” photo competition as a fun extension of our main lesson on “Growing Up.” We also started making “upcycled” tote bags by hand – using the students’ personal preferences for fabric and design.

Class 5 set off on a ferry ride to Milson Island where they had a fun, adventurous time in the outdoors kayaking, fencing, fishing, and making damper. Meanwhile, Class 6 went to Canberra with Martin and Lee to watch a real live parliamentary debate between our Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Leader of the Opposition, Peter Dutton. They also explored the Australian War Memorial and experimented inside the interactive science communication facility Questacon, Australia’s worldclass National Science and Technology Centre.

Have a lovely weekend.

A note from Canberra

We left for Canberra right on time (a miracle!), with eight very excited students.

Our first destination was Parliament House. What a great visit. We sat in awe watching the 90 Second Statement and then the action started with Questions Without Notice. Right in front of us was the Prime Minister, the Opposition Leader and many other politicians all battling it out. We saw how the Speaker of the House was trying to bring order and taking no back chat! The students thought it was just like school.

We then went on to the War Memorial. The students were enthralled with the artefacts, dioramas, and video clips. We witnessed The Last Post and quietly observed the many dignitaries attending and laying wreaths.

Thursday was a full day with a visit to Questacon, The Portrait Gallery, and the National Film and Sound Archive, and on Friday we visited the Australian Mint – all good fun!
