Kindergarten/Boronia Room

Kindergarten children are now preparing for their Summer Christmas Festival which will be held on Wednesday 10th December at 10am.  Children come to school at the later time of 10am in the company of their parents or carers.  This is the last day of school for this year, so a celebrity morning tea will follow the children’s presentation.  The gathering will conclude at 11.15am.  Children may head home after the event or continue up to the Primary school under the supervision of their parents or carers to watch the Primary children’s end of year Christmas Assembly.

Everyone enjoyed going on the bus and walking the Charles Darwin track on Tuesday.  How fantastic it was to join in with the Class 1/2 children, their teacher Kath and their gorgeous classroom assistants Rowena and Jen.  Amy was with us too and a few helpful parents accompanied us as well.  We were so secured in numbers and helpers to assist with trips, scrapes, shoes and socks!

The Charles Darwin walk is the perfect outdoor adventure in the hot weather.  It’s the perfect summer escape with children.  Lots of flat walking, bridges to cross and flowing water to delight the senses and cool the feet or the whole body if you so wish.

Thank you to the bus driver Tim and all the adults who came to assist and a special thank you to Kath who organised the event.  As the children said, “best day ever”!

Warm wishes to everyone,

Francine

Class 1/2

What a beautiful and busy week in Class 1/2! We completed our main lesson, Stories of The Dreaming. This week we heard about how the goanna and lizard got their markings and how the birds got their colours. This is an important unit exploring our local surroundings and we have loved listening to stories about our flora and fauna.

On Tuesday Amy, Francine, Rowena and Kindy joined us as we travelled to Wentworth Falls and wandered our way down the creek on the Darwin walk. We were blessed with the weather, and the children had a wonderful time splashing the water, playing in the oozy mud and climbing rocks. Thank you also to the parents who joined us and contributed to the day’s success, it was wonderful to have you along for the day.

Thursday evening was our class 1/2 after school bush walk and class 2 sleepover. Thank you to the amazing parent helpers who assisted our meal preparation and came on the bush walk, Martin, Paul, Soumya, Jenn, Dave and Steph for helping to make our long-awaited adventure a big success. Our afternoon tea was extraordinary, and we feasted like kings and queens. This is an important rite of passage that bridges the Class 3 camp next year, children gained further independence and practiced sleeping away from home. Class 2 also went for an evening bush walk to see the glow worms before sleeping out in tents. I am the proudest teacher, the children displayed resilience and self-determination, each child has grown so much this year.

Enjoy a restful weekend!

Class 3/4

It is the end of week 6 and just over three weeks left of school for 2025! In that time, we are having our camp in week 7 and next Monday and Tuesday 24th and 25th November we will be at Brewongle. Our class play, the Norse Viking Myth, Idunn’s Apples is on in Week 8 Wednesday evening at 6pm, 3rd December. It would be nice to have a supper afterwards too as the “after party” energy is always strong post-performance.

There is also the School Fun Day, December 1st and our end of year Summer Assembly December 10th. Semester 2 reports will also go home end of Week 8. Busy, busy times. A reminder that while children may love to give out Christmas cards, the addition of candy canes or chocolates in the cards isn’t supporting our healthy school policy and becomes an issue, even if given out at home time. Generously providing extra fruit is always welcome though!

Regarding the play, your children will be asked to wear a base of 1-2 colours that compliments their costume, layered under their provided tunics/cloaks- and long pants or a long skirt.

Speaking of costuming matters. This week all classes had a school meeting to discuss our school uniform policy. The children were told they need a wide brimmed hat, or cap with decent brim. That beanies or hoods were not adequate sun protection at this time of year. We also discussed shoes need to be sturdy- sports shoes, boots, enclosed shoes etc not crocs. We discussed that shorts or skirts need to be closer to the knee than to the top of the thigh. While the children can wear a small amount of black, wearing a dominance of black is against the school’s uniform policy. We do not want our children being advertising billboards or pressured by commercialised clothing trends and any logos should be minimal or absent entirely. Thank you for supporting the school in this.

This seems to be a lot of very official things to say!

I hope you take time to breathe out in these busy next few weeks. I am trying to establish a habit of intermittently staring at the morning sky each day. I do one morning task and go outside and look at the school even if just for a few seconds, then do something else and repeat. I am not quite sure what I am achieving in this social experiment for one, but it feels like it gives my brain a grounding in hope and comfort. It makes you feel small yet held in the world. Morning summer light and air is just so fresh and golden.

Warmest regards

Jeneva

Class 5/6

After such a variety of activities over the past few weeks or more, it’s nice to get back into our daily routines. The children have been continuing their Main Lesson on the History of Federation in Australia. The discussions and work have encompassed; The Australian Constitution, the structure of our parliamentary system and how it’s based on the British Westminster System, the pros and cons of compulsory verses non-compulsory voting, how our voting system is unique  as well Bush Ballads, art through the early colonial European lens and the Art and life of Albert Namatjira.

We welcome Akiko back after her amazing sojourn to Japan. It sounded like it was a wonderful experience.

As we look towards the end of this term, we have been going over some old favourite Morning Circle songs, movements sequences and verses, particularly for the year 6 children. It is actually very sweet to revisit the past primary school years when children are about to depart. Visiting Kindergarten and Francine last term was a healthy reminder of how far they have come and a nice feeling to be back in the embrace of all that Francine’s Kindergarten brings to the children.

A reminder for children to wear clothes and equipment that are appropriate for the school day, such as; hats, water bottles, sun safe clothing and plenty of food.

Have a lovely weekend,

Julie and Lee
