Kindergarten

Wow, the children have been so resilient in Francine’s absence in the past week. They’ve mostly taken the change in their stride, and we have been keeping the rhythm steady and strong.

Last week, the children heard the story of “Little Johnny Appleseed” who loved collecting apple seeds and planted them along his journey. When he returned home, the first seed had grown into a tree with ripe, rosy apples.

We also started practicing their Autumn Festival Morning Circle – we won’t give too much away! We also had gardening, eurythmy and Japanese this week – it’s been busy!

Have a lovely week ahead everyone and thank you for your support and understanding whilst I’ve stepped into Kindy.

Warmly,

Soumya, Kathryn and Isabella

Class 1/2

It was a fun and busy week in Class 1/2! Our Fairy Tales and Animal Fables main lesson has come to an end. Last week we listened to the story of an African queen, a Columbian ceramics maker and the Boy Who Cried Wolf! Our practice lessons have been an opportunity to practice making and writing words, using blocks to make tessellating patterns and counters to make friends of 10. During gardening this week, the children were strong and industrious in their cleaning of the chicken coop, fetching mulch from the front of the school and spreading it across the base for the happy chooks to explore and enjoy!

Play rehearsals for our Autumn St Michael play are underway! The celebration will be on Thursday 26 March at 5.30 pm. Our hardworking Class 1 gnomes and soaring Class 2 meteors have been exploring their character traits and lines. It’s such a pleasure to watch the rite of passage and older children supporting the younger ones with their role. Costumes will be provided for the play but kindly begin gathering clothes for children to wear underneath: Class 1 will require block colours: red, brown, green, orange, pink long pants, long or short sleeved tops and Class 2 will require yellow or white pants or shorts and tops.

Enjoy a beautiful week!

Warmly,

Kath

Class 3/4

It is with so much excitement, that we have started our play practice for the Autumn Festival. This is the first year that the Year 4’s will be the townsfolk and the Year 3’s get to be the dragon! So new lines need to be learnt and working as a team to march and roar is underway.

We have been balancing that with NAPLAN for the Year 3’s and our regular routine.

In our assembly, practically the whole class had pages of work they were proud to share. In morning circle, we have been singing like angels. Daily singing for 20 minutes has become a beloved part of our day.

In permaculture, the principle we looked at, was “accept feedback”. Annie explained that it was helpful to accept feedback from the garden and in life, for good and bad. It has occurred to me since that this is a challenge for many of us myself included. Next, we sketched a mulberry branch as tall as the classroom ceiling, that had grown “too tall” in the place selected. We then went and stripped mulberry branches in the garden to use them for woven fences.

In main lesson we have been looking at the story of Joseph and his rainbow coat, which would fit right into the mountains fashion! A key theme here is once again jealousy, feeling power over people and also dreams we might have for ourselves. A repeated idea is that humans feel many things, and it is the choices we make that defines who we are. As I have been learning in my Art Therapy course, it isn’t just the feeling, it is the story we tell ourselves about the feeling. They really are wonderful stories. I remember my sister being in the musical of Joseph when she was at high school, and the children have been amused by me bursting into song, mid main lesson story.

Have a good week,

Jeneva

Class 5/6

Can you believe it was week 7 last week already?!! I cannot… ! We’ve begun our Autumn Festival school play rehearsals in earnest now. It is assumed that all students will be in it. Please let me know ASAP if they won’t be attending as we are working out positions, transitions etc now.

NAPLAN for year 5 has been happening this last week. Anyone who has been away will do make up tests in the coming week.

We’ve begun our new Main Lesson, ‘Ancient Rome 1’. The class just completed veil paintings, which are very beautiful. They are in the assembly room, if you happen to be around and want to see them. I will be giving the children a project with this Main Lesson, some of which will be done in class, but some will need to be done at home.

The latest fads in 5/6 are multiple games of chess and cricket! Everyone is very busy during playtimes!

Autumn Festival play and supper is on Thursday 26th March 5:30 pm (arrive 5:15pm for changing into costumes). If you can, please send in healthy non- perishable food items prior to the day and/ or fresh vegetables etc for our HARVEST TABLE (all food stuffs will be donated to a local charity) on the morning of the 26th. It is a small way of showing care, generosity, kindness and connection within our community. With thanks.

Have a great week,

Julie
