Kindergarten
Having Michael Holmes (student teacher) with us in the classroom this last week has been lots of fun and enjoyable for everyone. The children have been listening to his stories and busy shaping their own bush walking stick.
Nest week is Science week, and Dr Imogen Jones will come to school on Thursday 20 August to talk to the children about Astrophysics and all things Space.
The crafting of a bush walking stick, (a craft project hosted by Michael Holmes), has allowed the children to sit in the sun on the verandah soaking up warming sunshine, while they sand and smooth their wooden stick. This week the children wrapped their sticks with coloured wool adding an individual touch and extra character to their prized project.
The children enjoyed eating warm bowls of porridge this week as the cold winds of August whirled and whistled around the playground and through the trees.

Class 1/2
This week we say farewell to the Four Helpers, General Divide washed thirty socks for his fifteen soldiers, and we met Peter Petition the baker, who used his knowledge of tens to keep track of orders. Making bread is another opportunity to discuss division as the children helped me to share the dough fairly between the class. So many opportunities to practice mathematical language and problem solving in our daily lives.
We were glad of the clear weather on Thursday as we enjoyed a wander by the lake and a play on the equipment on our class excursion to Wentworth Falls Lake. Thank you to Francine, Martin and Kindergarten for accompanying us.

Class 3/4
Lots of winter sickness going around and it caught Jeneva this week too. I (Soumya) have continued the ‘History of Writing’ Main Lesson with the class as we learned about clay tablets and also had a go at making sentences using pictures with as few words as possible. It’s tricky to communicate through pictures! We’ve had some fun with drama and maths games too.

Another successful food stall of yummy baked potatoes with toppings was served on Thursday. Thank you to everyone.
The class has been writing about the moon, both poetically and pragmatically.
We talked about the Australian Indigenous people’s ways of thinking and being with ‘Sky Country’. I found a really informative book which is written by a young First Nations’ astrophysicist which completely changes how we can approach the topic of astronomy.
