A Welcome from Our Principal

A message from our Principal, Martin Buckmaster

Welcome to Blue Mountains Steiner School. As Principal, I am deeply committed to an education that nurtures the whole child — head, heart, and hands.

With a strong belief in the importance of childhood, I am passionate about creating a school environment where children have the time and space to develop curiosity, imagination, confidence, and a genuine love of learning. I value the Steiner approach for its recognition that education is not simply about acquiring knowledge, but about supporting the development of the whole human being.

I bring to my leadership a particular interest in the relationship between education, community, and the natural world. I believe that children flourish when they experience strong relationships with their teachers, meaningful connection with nature, opportunities for practical and artistic work, and a curriculum that meets them at the right stage of their development.

I am committed to building a school community founded on care, connection, and a shared sense of purpose — ensuring our school remains a place where children can grow with confidence, develop their individual capacities, and carry a strong sense of connection to themselves, to others, and to the world around them.

Living and working in the Blue Mountains, I deeply value the extraordinary natural environment surrounding our school and see it as an integral part of the children’s educational journey.

“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.”
