Kindergarten/Boronia Room

Welcome back everyone to Term 3, our Winter-turning-to-Spring term. I wish to say a big thank you to all the families who made such thoughtful and comforting contributions to the wellbeing basket that I so gratefully received at the end of last term. That was a beautiful gesture and I was deeply touched.

During this last break I attended the “Vital Years” conference for Early Childhood teachers, educators and carers in Hobart, Tasmania. The conference went for five days and about 120 participants gathered together from Steiner Kindergartens, Preschools and Playgroups from around Australia.

The theme for this year’s conference was “Imitation As Phenomenon” and three international guests were invited to speak, Dr Lakshmi Prasanna, Silvia Jensen and Philipp Reubke. The speakers were completely inspirational and refreshing, bringing complex thoughts and challenging ideas. Along with the lectures and discussion panels there were a series of workshops where we exchanged ideas and learnt something practical to take home.

I thank the school for supporting me to attend this fabulous gathering and providing the opportunity to meet others working with young children and receive such wonderful nourishment that I can bring back to my work and our school community.

Welcome back everyone,

Francine

Class 1/2

It is with great joy and enthusiasm that we welcome our students and families back to school. We hope that you all had a very restful winter break and have enjoyed hearing about your winter adventures.

Please see our email sent earlier this week for more information about this upcoming term.

This week, Class 1 and 2 have started our new Main Lesson “Ngarra Ngurragu” which means “Listen to Country” in Darug language. Class 2 have also started “The Four Helpers” (a Maths-focused Main Lesson) with Isabelle. We’ve done some fun Copper Rod exercises this week and hope to continue for a few weeks.

Warm regards

Amy, Soumya and Isabelle

Class 3/4

Welcome to Term 3!

It is good to be back and I am looking forward to a busy and enriching time with our class. We begin in Winter, but will go out skipping in Spring!

We have our Spring Festival at the end of term on Wednesday, 25 September, but all term we will be working towards the festival during our music and Morning Circle times. Class 3/4 work hard towards this festival, by learning the Maypole and I have another exciting new dance genre to add to this year’s festival. I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t take off in all corners of Hazelbrook after we’ve shown you our moves! So please look at the school calendar and let me know asap if your child won’t be at school on the festival day, so I can take that into consideration when I’m choreographing.

We have Circus classes with Stuart Christie and basketball (sporting school’s program) this term on Fridays. Students need to wear comfy clothes which are safe and easy to move in. Runners are the best footwear for these activities.

Yurt Farm Two Night camp: will happen in Week 6. More information coming very soon.

Italian Cooking Day, Science Week (Week 4) and Book Week (Week 5) are also crammed in there too.

New Desks! We have brand new handmade wooden desks. They were designed and made by Justin, Xavier’s dad (from Class 5). Paul Glass and other parents also helped. They are just beautiful! Come and have a look.

Please read the weekly newsletter and check the school’s calendar which will be updated shortly, so that you and your child/ren know when things are happening, what to bring to school to be prepared, so to be able to participate in all activities.

Warm regards,

Julie and Meredith

Class 5/6

Hi, I’m Jesse and I am writing the 5/6 newsletter. This week we started our new Main Lesson ”Ancient Rome”. For our first story we learnt about ”Romulus and Remus” which is about how Rome was created!

We are also learning our 12x tables in Maths. We learnt how to round off numbers and even why we need maths in our everyday life!

We started learning our new song for the spring festival which includes percussion instruments, string and woodwind!
