Kindergarten/Boronia Room

We had such a happy return to school on Wednesday, the children looked so well rested and revitalised. It was so nice to welcome everyone back to a new, fabulous third term.

The children didn’t waste any time getting straight back into their play together. They expressed so much happy energy, running, chasing and interacting with laughter and big open smiles to be with each other again.

We took a walk around the school, looking at the changes that had occurred over the holidays.  We also visited the baby plants that the children had planted at the end of last term, noting their growth and checking on their wellbeing.

Annie the gardener is back from her travels, and we got stuck into pulling out weeds and cutting back one of our gardens in the Kindergarten. Annie guided the children in making a large “weed tea bag” that is now soaking in a bucket of water. This mix will be left to ferment until nice and smelly and then it will be used to fertilise and enrich the garden. How wonderful is that?

I wish to say a big thank you to all the families who made such thoughtful contributions to the Winter wellbeing basket that I so gratefully received at the end of last term. It was a beautiful gesture and I was deeply touched.

Welcome back everyone and happy weekend.

Class 1/2

Welcome back to Term 3, it has been blissful to have the children back together and we have settled into our class rhythm with ease. Though the days have been cool, we basked in every sparkle of Winter sun this week.

We are already enjoying our first Main Lesson, being Mathematics-based, “The Four Helpers”. The children are already acquainted with Farmer Plus, Molly Minus, Tatiana Times and General Divide. Through story and concrete materials, Class 1/2 will explore the four operations as well as to build upon the foundations of place value we explored last term.  Our stories provide context, engagement and magical mysteries to be solved.

Our first bush walk of the term took place on a gorgeous sunny Wednesday afternoon. A few children opened an ochre shop, others found clay to squeeze and mould, and we all enjoyed just spending time together after the holiday break apart. It was simply a joy to see such a cohesive group of children playing together and exploring our bush playground. We are fortunate indeed in Class 1/2.

Looking forward to an enchanting and energetic Term 3!

Warmly,

Kath and Class 1/2 Assistants

Class 3/4

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope your holidays were warm and restful. The term is starting with lots of exciting things on the horizon. We have a new main lesson on our local area. We have Circus Skills happening on Fridays. We have Mare coming in on Thursdays to do a whole class Music lesson as well as the ongoing small group tutorials. We have the Futsal Gala Day in a few weeks plus the Cross Country to train for! Gardening and permaculture are continuing with Annie, but we are switching it to Wednesday afternoons. We are planning an excursion in the next weeks also.

We welcomed Willa to our class in the end of Term 2 and also now welcome Jupiter Rose (Jupi) to our lovely class.

Looking forward to a happy and productive term. Please email me, drop me a letter, or drop in with any concerns or questions or suggestions of help you may like to give the class this Term.

Warm regards

Class 5/6

Welcome to Term 3!

We began our term with a bushwalk to Turtle Rock. It was a great way to reconnect with friends and to bring ourselves back to the place where we meet to socialise, learn and work.

The children took their draft books with them and write responses to the bush based around the 5 senses. This was a lovely way to bring some kinaesthetic connections to our environment. We did this as part of our discussion and work to acknowledge NAIDOC. The children wrote some sensitive responses about our school Country, after smelling the air, hearing the water and wind and seeing the clear crisp colours. We discussed this to try and bring more meaning to acknowledgments that are thankfully part of many of our communities.

Our first Main Lesson is Geology. Notes going home re: excursions. Many plans for this term. More news later!

Have a lovely weekend,

Julie and Lee
