Preschool
The Preschool children engaged in the preparation and planning of the Lunar New Year (Year of the Snake), and last week we began to create our own Lucky Red Envelopes, using red crayon and special golden glitter glue.
We had the pleasure of welcoming back multicultural storyteller Kiran Shah, who sang a lovely welcome song with the children, offering them the opportunity to call out their name to introduce themselves. Kiran told us the tale of The Great Race, using special musical instruments to describe the animals in the Chinese Zodiac.
The children had such a great time, and we look forward to having Kiran come and share Harmony Day celebrations with us in March.
This week is Bread Baking week, where the children have shown an increasing awareness of healthy lifestyles and good nutrition. We enjoyed the addition of some fresh rosemary picked from our garden.

Kindergarten/Boronia Room
Welcome everyone to our first full week of school and to our part-time “Little Kindy” who joined us this week.
Kindergarten Parent/Teacher night is set for Week 5, Thursday 27 February at 6pm. Please come and learn more about what your children do at school and meet the other families who make up the Kindergarten group.
We are working with Summertime themes in the Kindergarten, hearing stories about sea creatures finding a home and warm sunny days jumping waves by the beach.
The children are busy sewing fish to make a “school of fish” mobile. We have some mighty enthusiastic crafters in the group so the fish will be hanging up in the room very soon.
Enjoy your weekend.
Francine

Class 1/2
The children have settled beautifully into our daily rhythms and are so cohesive already. Thank you to our Class Two children who have welcomed the Class One children in such a caring manner. The Class One children are building their stamina for days of exploration and are proudly collecting their very own block crayons. We will continue to build upon our routines and Class Two readers will be coming home shortly.
Gardening with Annie is such a wonderful gift. Weeding the garden beds so lovingly planted last year and having a little snack along the way – some for the chickens and some for the children. Gradually we are sending home squash, cucumbers, and gourds as they are harvested. Please keep us informed of the delicious treats you make; we are looking forward to cooking as a class in the coming weeks.
Thank you, families, for sending spare clothes for water play, it was so fun to get saturated and sandy, digging and building dams in the sandpit on a hot day.
Enjoy a restful weekend,
Kath and Class 1/2 Assistants

Class 3/4
Class 3/4 have had a very settling first week of school. We continue to be off to a great start to the year practising our routines and rhythm of the day. Meredith is an angel who helps smooth many a hiccup and an “ideas girl” with creative and calm solutions. We are so lucky to have a full-time teaching assistant in each class.
In morning circle, we have been doing kata breathing moves and the yoga tree, mountain and warrior pose. We have also learnt the acknowledgment of country, warami mittigar and our class expectations in sign and Dharug. See if you can get a demonstration at home!
We finished off our wood snakes and prayer flags, adding detail to the paint with pencils. The flags are ready to be strung together and displayed in the room.
We looked at “back down the track” – ‘ck’ words in spelling and went down the track to play in the pine forest. What a delightful place to run, hide, build shelters, weave with reeds, and feel blessed to be a mountain child (or teacher)! We have put it into our timetable to enjoy every week.
We have started reading the Novel Magnolia Moon during fruit snack. Magnolia has just started Class 4 and set goals for the year, and one is to learn to speak crow! It is the first of many novels I am looking forward to sharing for pure enjoyment this year.
We could do with some picnic type blankets large or small if you come across one and some old sheets for cubby, tipi, shelter building.
Violin starts this week and that will be exciting, especially for the Class 3 mini minstrels.
Thank you to the parents who came to the Meet the Teacher. What a vibe of connection, love, humour, and hope was in that room. If you couldn’t make it, I am very happy to meet up next week straight after school or Wednesday or Thursday and do a run through.
Hats are staying in bags or on heads this year, so they aren’t left at school. Please add it to the morning checklist – lots of food, jumper, water bottle, hat. Children could make their own checklist and leave it near the door to share the responsibility. Thank you.
Warmest Regards
Jeneva and Meredith

Class 5/6
Class 5/6 have been hearing traditional stories from Ancient India and realising how stories carry with them beliefs that are integrated into the everyday ways of being in the world. Place or Country holds the stories, and they are fundamentally implicit in our beings. It’s going to be a challenge to fit in the whole history of Ancient India, so we’ll be just looking at the highlights!
We’ve also been revising fractions, getting ready for the decimal, percentages Main Lesson.
Please send in the Media Consent forms asap, indicating your preference. Camp is next week, please send forms in by Monday, if you have not done do already.
Have a lovely weekend,
Julie and Lee
