Kindergarten/Boronia Room
Kindergarten Winter Festival – Lantern Walk and Spiral set for Friday 20th June at 5.30pm.
“Warimi Midigaa” (Hello friends),
This term Kindergarten children have teamed up with the Boronia Preschool children to learn Dharug Dhalang with Amy Brownlee. On Tuesday all the children set off to the mini oval to sit on Country and work with Amy.
While sitting on Country and digging a little in the earth, the children sang and danced to the words “Budyari Nhaady’unya” and “Budyari Nhaady’unyila,” listened to a story about Dingu and Girrawi (Cockatoo) and shaped the animals from the story in beeswax. The time went so quickly, and we really did not want leave, but everyone is looking forward to working again with Amy next week.
We have a very full program this term, with Eurythmy with Isabella Jaworski on Tuesday mornings and gardening with Annie continuing on Wednesdays.
The Kindergarten children have been very industrious this week preparing their handcrafted gifts for Mother’s Day.
Wishing all our mothers, grandmothers, and mothering carers the very best Mother’s Day and family time together this weekend.
Francine

Class 1/2
We have been so lucky with our beautiful Autumn weather this week. Playing amongst the Autumn leaves, walking to the pine forest, climbing trees, and swinging on the tornado swing. The children watered plants and harvested fennel seeds to flavour our bread.
This week, through our Main Lesson we have followed the story of Peter and Skye as they explore calm and safe places at school and home. The safe people in our lives, who do we trust and why?
Thank you to those who lent a hand during our craft lesson on Monday. Our current craft projects include weaving recorder cases, sewing craft bags and knitting. There was also a special Mother’s Day craft this week which was created lovingly with smiles and joy for our wonderful mothers.
We attended our first Eurythmy session for the year, which was beautifully led by Isabella. This week our focus letter was B, our verses explored building houses and Autumn colours.
Enjoy a restful weekend!
Warmly,
Kath and Class Assistants

Class 3/4
We have had some lovely times together this week.
We created artworks from paper bark, inspired by a framed work in our assembly room gifted to the school in the 1970’s.
We have spent every afternoon exploring the children’s crafting skills and confidence, with knitting, crochet, felt work or finger knitting. If your child still knows where their craft bags are – with knitting needles, sewing needles etc, can they please return them to school. They shouldn’t have gone home.
In maths we have looked at column and pictographs. Discussing what material children would choose to build a house, and what would be their preferred means of transport. We looked at how graphs are a way to display information we can gather. In mathematical terms this is called data, trends, and patterns.
The children have started training for futsal, in preparation for the upcoming futsal gala day. Class 3/4 had a break from gaga ball this week while we remember other choices we can make for playtimes and look at how to make it run best for the children.
This term Dharug lessons are happening in two groups, with Class 3 and Class 4 attending for 30 minutes on a Tuesday at different times. This was much more successful and enjoyable for the children.
We have continued to look at shelters and building and have Paul Glass available to help us with a big building project finishing the cubby down in the amphitheatre. This will continue over the term and look at framing with bamboo, using wattle and daub, adding a door and windows.
I hope you have a lovely weekend in the autumn colour.

Class 5/6
The class have been learning about the Fertile Crescent where Mesopotamia lay between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. They heard creation stories from those times, and we have been discussing the fact that borders and countries change overtime depending on the interactions between people and the quest for land that is valued for a multitude of reasons.
I feel the class are responding to the change in weather: those cool-aired Autumnal days providing ease in the outdoors plus a cosy reprieve indoors.
I sent home a list of Rights and Responsibilities within the school context, in particular. They all agreed that the points were valid and there were opportunities to discuss. At this age, the feeling of justice and fairness is a very strong theme, so we must be clear what we need to uphold in terms of our own morality and that of the group.
We welcome Aria and Akiko (in Year 5), and their families to our school.
You should have received a note about our class camp which is happening in Week 5.
Please save May 24 date for our Autumn Fair. The children will be presenting a few items.
Have a lovely weekend,
Julie and Lee
