Kindergarten
Welcome back to school for all the Little Kindy children and their parents. I sincerely apologise for not being there to greet the return of the children. Unfortunately, I picked up a Winter virus during the holidays, and it took hold of me this week. I will be back on deck next week.
Thank you to Soumya, Isabella and Kath for stepping into my place and working with the children on my behalf.
Next week student teacher Michael Holmes will begin his placement with us. He will be carrying out some specific tasks during his time, observing and working in the room under my guidance and supervision. Michael will be with us for the next 2 weeks.

Class 1/2
This week we’ve gladly welcomed Kindergarten to our room and enjoyed sharing our games and stories. Our Mathematics-based Main Lesson provided opportunities for the children to explore the Land of Counting, rescue General Divide from a mineshaft and plant neat and accurate seed arrays with Tatiana Times. We also investigated the properties of 2D (two dimensional) shapes in a variety of orientations.
Rachel visited this week and shared her skipping knowledge as well as delivering a beautiful Japanese language lesson based upon The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Thank you to the Class 5/6 children for bravely sharing their carefully produced picture books with our class during buddy reading. Our school leaders also produced a beautiful lunch of nachos on Thursday, working towards their goal of funding the Class 6 Farewell in Term 4. It is inspiring to see our leaders in action!

Class 3/4
Highlights of our week in Class 3/4 were circus and Monday morning forest play. We explored ancient writing from Egypt and Greece in Main Lesson. We began using the new movement space for dancing, singing and drama games. We started using our new pencil cases, made from our shibori dying, as we settle into Term 3.

Class 5/6
We counted how many breaths we breathe in one minute (counting one as the in and the out breath). The amounts varied a lot, but they say on average, there are 18 breaths in one minute. What governs our breathing is our heart, so if our heart rate increases our breathing quickens… This is our body’s rhythm.
The earth has rhythms of its own, which are governed by another ‘heart’, that of the Sun. The rhythm of night and day, determining our sleep patterns, particularly when there were no electric lights in the world. And the Earth’s rotations around the Sun, causing the seasons to change, creating another regular rhythm (unless you’re in the north or South poles or on the Equator).
This is how we began our Astronomy Main lesson. Copernicus, a priest and astronomer, proved that the Earth rotates around the sun. So, through science and stories we will investigate this enormous topic and seek to understand a tiny star’s worth of the ideas!
Thank you to all who helped to make our Eucalypt Café food stall successful. Thanks to everyone who helped out and ate the delicious bean Nachos! There will be another (different) food on 13 August. Our Dress-up Day (gold coin donation) is next Tuesday.
