Preschool
The sun has shown us his shine, and we have been making rivers and estuaries in the sandpit with water.
We made Diwali Diyas for the festival of Diwali. The handling and molding of the clay is grounding and good for helping the little fingers get stronger.
Our story “Honey Cakes” is a delightful story about friendship and teamwork and is very popular.
The Boronias planted carrot seeds and looked for cicada shells as we talked about their life cycle and the beautiful singing “Clicketty Clack Cicada”.
A wonderful full week!

Welcome back to the last term of the school year. What a startling thought for the Kindergarten children and parents. This is a short term of 9 weeks so strap yourselves in for a sprint to the end.
I really hope that everyone enjoyed their break from the school routines and indulged in some relaxation and fun time with each other.
I have to admit that my time in Japan was fabulous. I walked in the forests, evened hiked up a volcano in Hokkaido, strolled the streets of an old Samurai Town in the very north of Japan, soaked in numerous onsens and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of my very special holiday.
The children planted out a variety of flowering plants with Annie on Wednesday. These were all plants that the children sewed as seeds many weeks ago. It was very exciting to see that they had grown into strong little plants, ready to go into the garden where there is more space to grow and expand.
We will be starting on our French knitting project on Thursday this week during craft. I am sure that the children will be very excited to master this new skill, even though it can be a bit challenging for them at first.
Please come and bring a friend to our Early Childhood Open Day on Saturday 2nd of November. Everyone is most welcome.
Cheers,
Francine
Class 1/2
Last Friday, we had our first Fun Friday Afternoon where the whole school were split into groups and did different activities – clay, kite-making, board games and STEM.
This week has been all about swimming! All the children have had a ball, and we’ve been really proud of their efforts listening, following instructions and staying safe overall.
We continued our Main Lesson on Marcel’s Marketplace with a focus on division (Class 2) or measurement (Class 1). We’ve been getting active with skipping as part of our Morning Circle.
A reminder that our class dinner and sleepover date has been changed to Thursday, December 5th (Week 8).
Have a great weekend!
Warm wishes,
Soumya, Amy and Kath
Class 3/4
This week’s swimming lessons have been great. The instructors were wonderful, and the children worked hard. I could see them becoming more tired (and hungry!) as the week went on, from all the swimming. Swimming Intensives are a great way to increase skills in the water. I recommend, for any children who are not yet strong swimmers, you enrol them in a holiday intensive at a local pool. It seems to be the most efficient way to gain these essential skills.
The class has been estimating objects and weighing them to see if their estimations are close to the mark. They are reading grams and kilograms, as well as liquid measurements. They have been practicing the idea of numbers increasing exponentially through a traditional Indian story called, ‘A Grain of Rice’. The class absolutely loved working out how one grain of rice being doubled every day could grow into the millions by the 30th day!
We have been reading big numbers and learning where to put the comma, so that they can be read with ease and greater understanding.
Have a lovely weekend,
Julie and Meredith
Class 5/6
The class has been swimming well this week in their lessons. Whilst Elizabeth has been absent, the children have been revising their comprehension skills, doing some beautiful paintings based on Van Gogh’s Sunflowers with Jess. They have been working on how to move a decimal point in maths with Minh.
We’d like to thank Lee and all the teachers for holding the class whilst Elizabeth was away.
Have a great weekend!
