Kindergarten
Kindergarten Winter Lantern Walk and Spiral – Friday 26 June at 5.30pm
Parent / Teacher Interviews – Week 9
Kindergarten students are currently exploring Autumn themes and colours, through storytelling, play, gardening, cooking, painting and modelling with beeswax.
This week the children heard the story of the “Autumn Blanket” and made all kinds of blankets and other creations with their beeswax in response to this beautiful story.
We went with Annie into the school garden on Wednesday and picked a butternut pumpkin. Then the children took turns carrying the pumpkin back to the classroom, where we grated the pumpkin, a zucchini and an apple and made some healthy muffins. They were very yummy!
All the children delighted in making cards for their mothers this week at school, with lots of love hearts and words of love for their mums.
Wishing all the Mums a special weekend.

Class 1/2
Happy Mother’s Day to our wonderful mums, grandmas and aunts. The children have been lovingly creating gifts and shared a moving presentation at our Mother’s Day morning tea on Thursday. Thank you to those who were able to attend, it was a wonderful opportunity to get to know others in our vibrant community.
Class 1/2’s Main Lesson “Our Place” has allowed us to consider who the safe people and places are in our lives, what we can do when feeling uncomfortable or needing support in different environments. We have listened to stories from a snail and black cockatoo’s perspective and climbed to the top of the Knoll to get a bird’s eye view of our school community. The maps drawn by the children provided gorgeous insight to a child’s point of view.
Enjoy the weekend, filled with love, crunchy leaves and hopefully breakfast in bed!
Warmly,
Kath
Italian News
This week in Italian, we learnt about body parts by creating our own “mostro” (monster) with varying amounts of body parts. We illustrated and described them, gave them names and talked about where they lived. We also played a tricky game of “Simone dice…” (Simon says…) to continue to practice our new vocab.

Class 3/4
Is Autumn always this beautiful and I forget and rediscover it each year?
Busy times in the past week. We made Fire Cider and now it sits in huge jars that need agitating (annoying) daily while it ferments.
In Main Lesson we explored polar bears – 2.5 metres long, 700 kg of bear and the ability to sniff a seal 1 km away! We looked at the evolution dogs, from wolves to the beloved companions of today, and the wild cats to the fat white house cat at my feet. After hearing the story, the children write their own recounts of facts in their books.
The Mother’s Day crafting continued with a whole lot of serious industriousness. Children put more care and focus into Mother’s Day activities than in any other lesson all year! It is proof of love.
Thank you to the families who could come to the Mother’s Day Morning Tea, my condolences if you had to miss it.
We started practicing our Hebrew Song Compilation for the Autumn Fair, where the students will perform at 11 am, singing and violin. It would be great to have everyone there performing and with family in the audience enjoying the show.
This is layering weather. It starts cold. But the kids can end up overdressed and hot, red faces and flopping all over the scene. Layers are the key.
Enjoy your weekend. Go gently.

Class 5/6
The Class has been working on their in-class ROMAN TIMES newspaper headlines and news page. They all put in so much hard work. Come and have a look in the classroom and read about Hannibal’s journey from Carthage to Italy or perhaps you’ll want to buy some of those fancy handmade Roman sandals for 4 denarii once you see the advertisement!
Your child will have also brought home a project sheet. Please contact me if you have any questions. It is due Week 6, not Week 5 (as I wrote on the term calendar).
As I write this, we have not yet finished the FUTSAL rounds – news on that next week.
Please help us to have a brilliant Autumn Fair. Any support you can give will help to make it lovely. Students need to be there at 11 am on Saturday 23 May for our class presentations. Please let me know if your child is unable to be there. I encourage as many people from the class to be there as possible
Lastly, thank you to everyone who attended the Mother’s Day morning tea and heard our students singing with their beautiful brave and sweet voices. What a delight!
May you all have a lovely weekend,
Warmly,
Julie
Italian News
This week in Italian we used the opportunity of making Salsa di Frutta (Chutney) to learn many new ingredient words in Italian, to learn some classic old Italian songs like “Volare…nel blu dipinto di blu” to accompany our cooking and we also practiced our question vocabulary in fun games while we took turns prepping the food.
I reminded the students that listening to music in Italian is a great way to practice their pronunciation. Maybe you could play the song during your next Italian dinner for a bit of ambience.
