Kindergarten
The Kindergarten children enjoyed a very full week of water play, painting, gardening and fun together. They are relaxing into the routines of their week and strengthening their bonds of friendship with each other.
Last week the children planted a range of beans and snow peas with Annie and this week we discovered that the seeds are sprouting, pushing through their green sprouts. It is very exciting and the children are encouraging the seedling’s growth by misting and watering the young shoots very gently.
This week’s story was called “The Gift of Shells”, about an old gnome named Sandy, Sandy the Beach Gnome. The children made some fabulous beeswax images in response to the story.
Next week we will begin to leave behind the summer beach themes and gradually move into Early Autumn colours, images and stories.
Have a great weekend.
Francine, Kathryn and Isabella

Class 1/2
Thank you everyone who participated in our swimming fun day at Lawson Aquatic Centre, Class 1/2 had so much fun practicing our swimming skills and playing novelty games in the small pool. I think the highlight was collecting coloured discs from the bottom of the pool!
Our literacy-based Fairy Tales and Animal Fables Main Lesson is progressing with the Musicians of Breman, The Tortoise and the Hare, Nana Elephant and Little Red Riding Hood. The children are really enjoying the powerful mood of wonder and wisdom when the tales are told in the traditional form of oral storytelling.
As adults, we understand the characters in these stories to be metaphors for qualities in life rather than literal representations of people. The child hears the stories in a different way than an adult – they identify with every character in the story, with their virtues or their weaknesses, and in listening to the story enter into a magical realm of pure imagination which is the heart of childhood.
We consider these stories as an opportunity to fill a child’s treasure box, serving as subtle but crucial tools to nourish imagination, emotional intelligence, and moral development.
Class 1/2 read the story Our Class is a Family and our Restorative Practice lesson this week. We discussed the values that contribute to a friendly and cohesive environment. Together the children made friendship bracelets, threading beads: red for kindness, orange for respect, yellow for being ourselves, green for being different, blue for sticking together and magenta for working hard. Our bracelets will help us to remember we will learn and grow together.
Due to unpredictable weather, we swapped our bush walk this week to play in the Kindy room with Francine. A lovely opportunity to visit a different part of our school bush playground and remember the good old days of Kindergarten!
Enjoy a peaceful weekend!
Warmly,
Kath

Class 3/4
This week we explored Lunar New Year and the tale of the Great Race. 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse – a symbol of dynamic change and energy. We drew fire horses with blazing manes and tails, beautifully counterbalanced by our handwriting lessons, where we continue to revise the careful formation of all our letters.
We ventured on a misty bushwalk to the crossroads and enjoyed our swimming fun day at the iconic Lawson Pool.
In our main lesson stories, we travelled with Noah’s Ark and spoke of fresh starts. We stood at the Tower of Babel and reflected on what it means to have our “heads in the clouds” and how being busy can sometimes cause us to lose touch with the earth beneath our feet. We heard the promise to Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars and learned that his son Isaac was given his name, meaning “laughter,” because Sarah laughed when told she would bear a child within the year.
In painting, we worked with earth colours to create layers of the earth, sprinkling “salt of the earth” across the surface and watching it transform the texture. The children were captivated. One child declared it the most beautiful painting they had ever created.
In writing, we shared reflections on why we love the Blue Mountains and composed tall tales explaining why we were late for school. I know the children are proud of their work because they ask to read it aloud, not just show it to me. As they read, their faces light up with amusement and pride as they share their words.
Afternoons included frozen oranges enjoyed on the carpet, a simple pleasure in the warmer days. We are always grateful for fruit contributions such as apples, oranges, watermelon or grapes to freeze and share. These small offerings are received with great delight whenever you happen to have extra.
We had our first Eurythmy lesson of the year with serene Isabella, weaving in circles, clapping rhythms and letting the poetry of her words float over us. Mare also shared that violin is going beautifully this year and is very pleased with the focus and engagement of the students.
School photos brought their usual mix of excitement and nerves. In addition, our Year 3 students began NAPLAN practice sessions with Martin.
It has been a full and somewhat tiring week for the children. If you have felt some of those big emotions at home, you are not alone. Let us all take a collective breath and enjoy the weekend ahead.
Warm regards,
Jeneva

Class 5/6
The Class has been busy learning and revising Lowest Common Multiples for Fraction equations. Class 6 are further expanding from fraction and decimals to percentages.
Class 5 children have been familiarising themselves with the process needed for doing NAPLAN on the laptops.
We also began creating ‘samplers’ of embroidery stitching – a traditional practice for learning the myriad of stitches used in traditional pieces.
I sent an email about Ganguddy Camp date change plus a request for tents. Please let me know if you have one that we could lend (max. 4-5 people).
Have a lovely weekend,
Julie
