Kindergarten
We say farewell to student teacher Michael Holmes this week. Michael had the children shaping bush walking sticks during his placement, as part of a craft time project, which the children thoroughly embraced and enjoyed. We will all miss Michael.
Hopefully, Isabella will be feeling better and back in time to enjoy Book Week with us and the annual Book Character Parade for next Tuesday 25 August.
Thank you to Dr Imogen Jones for another very stimulating and interesting enquiry into “The Planets and the Universe” for Science Week. Dr Imogen has the most remarkable ability to respond to and answer all of the children’s diverse and tricky questions!
On Wednesday, the children planted herbs into a garden bed with Annie. Our hope is that these herbs will grow and flourish so that the children can pick them and make herb bread during their bread baking sessions.

Class 1/2
This week we began our new Main Lesson, The King of Ireland’s Son. This Celtic tale is full of adventure and will form the base of our class play this year. His hound at his heel, his hawk on his wrist, a brave steed to carry him whither he list! We are really enjoying the story and find there is never a good place to stop each day.
We have been thoroughly enjoying Science Week in Class 1/2! We began with using pumpkin harvested from our school garden to create a mixture: a material that is made up of two or more substances. We observed that the wet mixture changed when heated and became a delicious solid. We succeeded in the STEM design challenge to build a bridge that could hold a tiny human, and the children made parachutes to explore gravity and how changing the size or weight of an object can impact the fall. Thank you to Imogen (Sable’s mum) for visiting us to share more about the solar system and answer our questions big and bigger.

Class 3/4
This week class 3/4 explored Science week looking at famous scientists Galileo, Isaac Newton, Marie Curie and Charles Darwin. We were also fortunate to be involved in water purity testing experiments, assisted by Pip’s family. The Maypole is up on the ball court for practices to begin. Very exciting.

Class 5/6
We began our Ancient Greece Main Lesson, focusing on the creation aspects, as well as art and philosophy.
This week Imogen visited and she answered questions about eclipses, black holes and Spaghettification. It was perfect timing to have her in just after our Astronomy Main Lesson. She is an astrophysicist and Sable’s mum. It was great!
Next week we have the Book Parade and a food stall.
