Kindergarten/Boronia Room

The Kindergarten children are busy preparing for their Christmas Summer Festival.  The children will present their circle work on Wednesday 10th December at 10am on the last day of term.  Everyone is welcome to join us in our end of year celebrations.

The French knitted seat covers are receiving their finishing touches this week. The Kindergarten children going into Class One next year, are so very proud of their soft, spirals of colour.  They are looking forward to tying them to their chairs when they arrive in class one next year.

This week the children heard a story about the greedy eel in their Dharug Dhalang lesson with Amy.  While they listen to Amy’s story, the students shaped their beeswax into wonderful creations that twisted and floated in response to the watery tale.

Christmas crafts are on the horizon for next week and the Kindergarten students are very excited by the prospect of making things to add to their decorations and preparations for Christmas at home.

Have a relaxing weekend, stay cool.

Class 1/2

It feels as if Summer has made itself known this week, lots of time in our bush playground, frozen fruit and waterplay as we enjoy the last few weeks together before a long Summer holiday.

Class 1/2 began our final Main Lesson for the year Inspirational People. This is always a favourite topic for me as we consider what inspires us and what human qualities within the stories are worthy of emulation, as we can continue to grow like sunflowers to be the best version of ourselves. This week we learned of Saint Jerome, who long ago valued kindness, equality and education for all and Jane Goodall a pioneer scientist and advocate for defending wildlife.

We look forward to hearing more stories in coming weeks.

We were fortunate in our Dharug language lesson this week, on a hot, Hazelbrook day Amy led us on a bush walk to the cool pine forest. Amy shared the story of Gurungady, the greedy eel who learned the value of sharing with friends and caring for his environment.

Class 2 meet with Mare this week to be introduced to the violin, measured and have their first turn using the precious instrument. The pride and joy of the children was something to behold and I can’t wait to watch their progress next year as they begin weekly violin lessons in Class 3!

Enjoy a lovely, sunny weekend!

Warmly,

Kath and Class 1/2 Assistants.

Class 3/4

Class 3/4 had a wonderful camp to Brewongle Environmental Centre. We had orienteering and mapping with “mission code break”, where the children found clues in teams to make a shared message. It was – Sustainability enough for now and always.

We made gunyas, learning which sticks made a tripod base and which to layer. And honouring the local Aboriginal people.

We peeked in nesting boxes high in the trees with a camera on a stick and saw possums with the cutest pink noses.

We went kayaking and went in a cave in our kayaks. Some “accidentally” fell out into the beautiful Dyrrubin (Hawkesbury River).

We splashed around in the water and were visited by the cutest sausage dog with the waggiest tail “Tippy Toes”.

We lay under trees and played giant uno and some imaginative game involving caterpillars who chased people … someone’s creative invention.

We are back and into play practice like we are auditioning for Bell Shakespeare or NIDA. Prop planning, costume design.

Hope you enjoy your weekend.

Class 5/6

The class have a big end of year energy at the moment. There is excitement all around and many games are being played in the playground-as though trying to fit as much in as possible. The group are incredibly social and I can feel their excitement and also reluctance of the imminent changes with Class 6 about to leave.

We have been writing speeches and learning and defining the elements that make a speech interesting. The children have been writing from the context of our recent topic on Land Rights, as they heard the story of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam giving the Gurindji people their land back by symbolically pouring a handful of sand into Elder, Vincent Lingiari’s hands. We listened to Paul Kelly’s song, From Little Things, Big Things Grow and it felt like a distillation of the lesson being shared but also of where the children are at. They are growing up and understanding the complexities of the world, remembering where they have come from and what is worth holding onto.

Class 6 Fun Day is on Monday for the children. Bring your gold coins for a fun time of activities and a contribution to raising funds for the Class 6 Farewell!

*Raging Waters is next Thursday 4th for Class 6

*Farewell is on Saturday 6th.

*Year 5 will be briefed on their duties for the farewell next Tuesday 2nd.

Have a lovely weekend.

Warmly,

Julie and Lee
