Kindergarten/Boronia Room
Kindergarten is looking forward to walking with their lanterns in the dark Winter’s Night this Friday 20th June. The lanterns are ready and waiting to be lit. The children are excited and filled with anticipation for this special event.
When the children return from walking with their lanterns, they will enter the classroom to walk the Winter Spiral, laid out on the floor of their transformed room. This is a very special and unique celebration of the shortest day and the longest night. A night that continues to live on deep within the memory of these children and their families.
I look forward to sharing this night together.
Warmest wishes,
Francine

Class 1/2
Class 1/2 began a new Literacy-based Main Lesson called World Stories. The combination of engaging stories and exploring countries known and new on the class globe is wonderful. So far, we have travelled vicariously to Italy, India and Russia and met many new friends. How fortunate we are to have such a rich and varied curriculum at Blue Mountains Steiner School.
On Monday the children played volleyball with Pete, I’m pleased to say our work on resilience has been paying off. By all reports, Class 1/2 were good sports and took a break if they were feeling frustrated! Well done Class 1/2 for working together as a team to make sure everyone had fun.
Amy was here on Tuesday for our usual Dharug language lesson. We are having fun and practicing language through play, song, and dance. Class 1/2 enjoyed a sunny afternoon in our school library. Sitting with a friend or two and sharing a book is truly a beautiful experience for our class.
Though Annie is away, we are keeping up our work in the school garden. Class 1/2 have been weeding, watering seedlings and compost turning as our lovely, warm Winter days continue. Thank you also to our families who are looking out for our chicken friends.
Our lanterns progress and our singing lifts our spirits on cool mornings. Please remember to bring foliage next Thursday morning as it takes a whole lot of community effort and greenery to make a winter spiral!
Enjoy a sunny weekend,
Kath and Class 1/2 Assistants

Class 3/4
Things are very settled in Class 3/4 at the moment, and the children are working well. It feels like the “lantern life” has taken over and is quite all consuming. Each lantern has multiple steps that need to occur after each stage dries and can only be successfully done 1-on-1 with every child, while we also keep our lessons rolling too. This looks like working out the front with a child on a lantern while pausing and going to desks to answer questions and assist then back to the floor for another 2 minutes and then another round of questions. It is quite the dance. Fortunately, the children are being amazing at working as a team as this happens.
The Norse Myths Main Lesson continues to be a delight. We have heard about Idun’s apples this week and also learnt runes. Writing in runes is as captivating for this group of children as it always is. There was great amusement at doing free writing in runes. Thinking how it looked so “ancient” but was actually discussing chicken nuggets and cats and all manner of child-centred things. We have been learning “safe and interesting moves with the Viking sticks during Morning Circle. It is fun” (Rose)
I heard from one parent that their child comes home and is loving these stories. This was my positive moment I took to our staff meeting on Tuesday, where we share a highlight of the week. It really is so uplifting to hear something nice like this.
The term is drawing to a close soon enough though and we know the children will start to get tired. For now, they continue to have plenty of spark and energy!
Have a great weekend

Class 5/6
FUTSAL went really well last Friday. The children are great at playing soccer together. We didn’t win but gosh they played well. They are great at the defence and less strong in the attack. Fancy feet are developing, and the goalies were terrific at keeping those balls out of the goals. They are a beautiful group of children who are kind and supportive to one another.
We are working on lanterns, firesticks, and geometry and have started the Ancient Greece Main Lesson.
Firestick Class 6: wear black, no logos, hair tied back.
See you all at the Winter Festival. This is a quiet festival. My suggestion is to try and reduce use of electricity on that particular evening.
Lee is back in class, which is great.
Have a lovely weekend,
Julie and Lee
