Blue Mountains Steiner School is currently seeking applications for an experienced and enthusiastic primary school teacher. This position is for a full-time 12-month temporary contract, beginning January 2025.
Our school is located in the stunning natural beauty of Dharug country in the Blue Mountains of NSW, near the village of Hazelbrook.
We are seeking an experienced, energetic, enthusiastic, and passionate candidate who is committed to teaching and learning within a restorative practice mindset. Experience in Steiner education or willingness to undertake professional learning in Steiner education is essential.

Position Description and Selection Criteria
Class Teacher 2025 1.0 FTE Temporary
Responsible to: Blue Mountains Steiner School Council
Key tasks and expected outcomes
- Teach the NESA and Steiner Curriculum effectively to the students
- Carry out Duty of Care to students
- Participate in and contribute to BMSS co-curricular activities
- Carry out teaching duties as negotiated with the Principal and the College of Teachers
- Work independently and cooperatively as part of a team in programming, assessing and reporting
- Assess wellbeing and academic progress of students and communicate with parents
- Use a variety of teaching strategies to engage students
- Provide strong and consistent classroom feedback
- Classroom management skills in accordance with our Steiner School ethos
- Complete academic reports
- Attend and participate in school festivals, open days and parent evenings
- Attend weekly faculty meetings
- Commit to regular Professional Development (PD) and growth
- Willingness to be mentored
- Positively support Steiner education and the values of BMSS.
Qualifications
- A tertiary degree in Primary education (preferred)
- NESA-approved teaching qualification
- NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- Current First Aid certificate.
Knowledge and experience
- A working knowledge of current NSW syllabus documents and programming primary KLAs as well as Steiner Curriculum (SEA) and assessment.
- Experience in teaching primary students
- Pedagogical proficiency and engagement of students
- Knowledge and experience in Steiner teaching including developing rich Main Lessons, daily storytelling and morning circles.
- A willingness to deliver a Steiner creative arts program including form drawing, wet on wet painting, handcrafts and blackboard chalk drawing.
- Commitment to the education and wellbeing of young people
- Experience working with school programming documents
- Completing a classroom program and assessments.
